Program Description:

Edinburgh Jennifer Smith
The MassArt International Exchange Programs are full immersion programs at one of our reciprocal exchange partner host institutions. Students enroll directly in the institution abroad but pay MassArt tuition and fees. Most forms of financial aid apply, but it is important to check with the financial aid office for more information. Be sure to visit our website for more information on the steps to study abroad.

Please note: You may not apply to an outside program until a completed
IEC Semester Away Learning Agreement has been submitted to the IEC. 

Term 1: September-December
Term 1 Nomination Deadline: May 1st
Term 1 Application Deadline: May 31st


Term 2: January - May
Term 2: Nomination Deadline: October 1st
Term 2: Application Deadline: October 31st


Credits and Classes:
Students can take 60 credits a semester at Edinburgh which translates to 15 MassArt credits


Design students will apply for 2 courses:
1. Design Externality Major, focus on creation and project that is specific to students subject area.  
2. Design Research & Context 3, focus on research and documentation that is specific to students subject area.
ECA School of Design

School of Art students can take 2 courses: 
1. 50 credits Studio Practice
2. 10 credits Theoretical
Alternatively they can take all 60 credits as Studio Practice in their specific subject area.

Where Students Live:
Accommodation is guaranteed by Edinburgh College of Art, however your first choice of housing is not guaranteed.

In addition to paying MassArt tuition and fees, you should consider the additional costs of studying abroad. The student is responsible for purchasing plane tickets, housing, health and travel insurance, food, additional local travel and personal expenses. It may be against visa regulations in your study abroad country for you to work. If you are allowed to work, it may be difficult to to find short-term employment. Be prepared!
