Program Description:
Alchimia Chloe Leigh
The MassArt International Exchange Programs are full immersion programs at one of our reciprocal exchange partner host institutions. Accepted students enroll directly in the institution abroad but pay MassArt tuition and fees. Most forms of financial aid apply, but it is important to check with the financial aid office for more information. Be sure to visit our website for more information on the steps to study abroad.
Alchimia School of Contemporary Jewelry is located in the historical heart of Florence, Italy. Living up to its reputation as the “cradle of the Renaissance”, Florence’s cityscape is dotted with grand palaces (Palazzo Pitti) and cathedrals (Dome of Florence Cathedral) dating from both the medieval and Renaissance eras.  Experiencing a combination of Mediterranean and humid subtropical climatic conditions, weather patterns in Florence are characterized by hot summers and cool winters.

*Please note: You may not apply to an outside program until a completed IEC Semester Away Learning Agreement has been submitted to the IEC. Dates and deadlines below are subject to change. Do not purchase plane tickets or book accommodation until acceptance and program dates have been confirmed by the away school.

Programs Accepting Exchanges:
Contemporary Jewellery and Jewellery Design

Where students live:
Once accepted to Alchimia, the host institution assists students in finding accommodation through referrals to local student lodging providers in Florence. Students are able to secure private rooms or studio apartments through these providers. Prices usually range from €350-€450 per month for a single room in shared apartments, to €700-€800 for private studio apartments.

All students on exchange find accommodation, though it is never guaranteed by the host institution and is fully the student’s responsibility.

Credit and Classes:
Students on exchange at Alchimia generally take a full semester course load and receive 24-30 ECTS credits (12-15 US credits). Detailed course descriptions and timetables will be sent to exchange students upon acceptance.

Costs to Consider:
In addition to paying MassArt tuition and fees, you should consider the additional costs of studying abroad. You are responsible for purchasing plane tickets, housing, health and travel insurance, food, additional local travel and personal expenses. It may be against visa regulations in your study abroad country for you to work. If you are allowed to work, it may be difficult to to find short-term employment. Be prepared!
