Program Description:

INCOMING EXCHANGE STUDENTS
Massachusetts College of Art and Design (MassArt) has established international exchange partnerships with institutions of Art and Design. Exchange students are an important part of the MassArt community, and we welcome applications from all our exchange partners. If you are interested in attending MassArt as an exchange student for a semester-long and are from one of our exchange partner institutions.
All exchange students planning to study at MassArt for one semester must first be nominated by your home institution. Please visit the Exchange/Study Abroad Coordinator on your home institution for the latest information and application process. Please do not start the Studio Abroad application until you have been nominated by your home institution.

Exchange students can apply to study in one of our 18 Bachelors of Fine Art (BFA) programs as a full-time student either in the Fall or Spring semester. Please visit the All Programs section of the MassArt website for information about the departments to which you can apply.

Typically, accepted exchange students are placed into the sophomore or junior level of the department to which they are accepted depending on the student's portfolio and interests. Students must take between 12-15 credits in a semester to be full-time and maintain their immigration status. Of the credits enrolled, 6 credits are usually devoted to major courses. Then 6-9 credits are made up of electives (which can include studio courses), liberal arts courses and art history courses. Please note that not all courses are open to exchange students, and we cannot guarantee placement into a specific class.

Nomination and Application deadline:
  • Fall semester (September-December): April 1st.
  • Spring Semester (January-May): October 1st.
