Travel with St. Paul: Greece and Turkey RELIG 2153
Program is open to COF students.
This course examines the development of the earliest Christian
communities in their Greco-Roman context. We will trace the
emergence and growth of Christianity through a study of the
writings of St. Paul, particularly his letters to the Corinthians
and Ephesians, the Acts of the Apostles, and St. John’s Book of
Revelation. The course compares and contrasts Greco-Roman
religion with the beliefs and practices of early Christianity and
Judaism. We will visit some of the most important early Chris-
tian and Greco-Roman sites of the frst centuries CE.
Program Highlights:
- Visit the Acropolis, Areopagus, and Agora in Athens where St. Paul spoke to leading citizens of the city.
- In Istanbul, see the great church of Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, and the Grand Bazaar.
- In Turkey, tour Pergamom, Kusadasi, and Ephesus, one of the world’s best preserved ancient cities and the last home of St. John and Mary, the Mother of Jesus.
This course fulflls one Emmanuel College general education requirement in Religious Studies.
